VINNIE PAUL Says HELLYEAH's Goal Is 'To Have A Lot Of Fun'

Jim Beal Jr. of Express-News reports: HELLYEAH came together in Dallas two summers ago. The debut CD, "Hellyeah" (Epic),was recorded at Chasin' Jason Studios, the studio in the house of the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, drummer Vinnie Paul's brother. Dimebag Darrell was killed by a disgruntled fan while onstage with DAMAGEPLAN in Columbus, Ohio, in December 2004.

"None of us knew what to expect," Vinnie Paul said. "With DAMAGEPLAN, we had to endure the PANTERA fans, because PANTERA is what they really wanted. But with HELLYEAH, at a show in Baltimore the crowd knew all the words."

One thing sets HELLYEAH apart from a lot of bands.

"We knew HELLYEAH had to be a lot of fun," Vinnie Paul said. "We got into it for one reason: to have a lot of fun."

"For me, HELLYEAH is really exciting," guitarist Tom Maxwell said. "There's an energy in the air that reminds me why I wanted to play music in the first place. When we got together, I felt like a kid."

"This is my second time going through this," Vinnie said. "It's like starting over. Sometimes you get too jaded, too seasoned. With HELLYEAH, we've been having a lot of fun. From the minute we sat down in the studio, there was a lot of energy."

Perhaps being at Chasin' Jason Studios made a difference.

"It felt like Dime was behind us driving us to what to do," Vinnie said. "It felt like he was there with us. Me and Dime built the studio so we could record any time we wanted to. I felt it was the right place to do HELLYEAH."
